Los Nevados, Colombia

En route in Los Nevados National Park and on to the peak of Santa Isabel in the Colombian Andes, 1995. We rode in the back of “Narco Willy”, a 4WD vehicle of a type favored by traffickers. This one was not involved in the trade.

There were several mechanical repairs to get this far and we got stuck in the mud many times. The completely bald tires didn't help. The seven of us climbed Santa Isabel the next day but altitude sickness cut the ascent well short of the summit. The adventure of just getting there was the most fun!
